Spreading The Glad Tidings

Text: Luke 8:1-3    IBCWPM   January 11, 2006

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

Spreading good news is delightsome for the herald, and of course, to the hearers of the message. Every time we hear good and favorable information from others, we tend to spread the news immediately because we know that it will give joy to hearers. Good news must not be kept unheard.

The Gospel of Christ is the best news every man could hear in his lifetime. It is also the best message every Christian should spread through out the world. In Mark 16:15, it is written, And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (KJV) These words that came out from the very lips of the Savior should not be taken lightly because it has something to do with the principal need of mankind, which is salvation.

The spreading of the Gospel is a God-given responsibility to the Church and therefore should not be neglected, but should be given careful attention. In Luke 8:1, it is written, And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance. (KJV) These passages from the Bible tell us how the Lord and His followers exemplified the needed interest for the furtherance of the Gospel.

A prayerful study on how we should spread the Word based on how the Lord demonstrated it during His earthly ministry could dramatically enhance our Mission Program.

                 (I) The Teamwork We Need

    Luke 8:1   I Corinthians 3:5-9

    -The Lord and His Followers

The Great Commission can not be accomplished by one man, but through joint efforts of the believers. There is no such thing as "one man show" in the mission field. Luke 8:1-3 shows us an ideal way of spreading the Good News through teamwork. What an excellent team for us to consider.

                 (II) The Supporters We Need

     Luke 8:1-2

-Believers who really appreciate what God has done

      to their lives

A closer look on the names mentioned in Luke 8:1-3 makes us realize that those who followed the Lord and served Him during His earthly ministry were the recipients of God’s loving-grace. With the exception of Judas Iscariot, they were the people who truly appreciated the loving-kindness of God, and as a manifestation of their gratitude, they gave their best support to the spreading of the glad tidings. May true believers stand up for Christ and give their best support to their Local Churches where they could become a great help in spreading the Gospel globally.

                 (III) The Support We Need

      Luke 8:3

      -The believers' presence

      -The believers' substance

      -The believers' prayer

       Matthew 9:36-38

True Christians should be aware that they are responsible in the spreading the Gospel and negligence of their God-given duty would imperil lost souls. In most cases, believers are missing their opportunities to witness for Christ because they are intimidated by severe persecution from unbelievers, others have indifferent attitude toward giving, and many professing believers are coward and ashamed to stand for the Truth and to share the Gospel. How sad, but this should not be done in the believer's life.

In Romans 1:14-16, it is written, I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (KJV) Christians have a debt to pay and the only way to become free of that debt is to share the Gospel to the lost.

Christians must be sensitive to the Word of God and to the spiritual need of human race. If only Christians would give their best support to the spreading of the Gospel, without doubt, millions of souls from all walks of life will put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, be saved and experience the spiritual blessings which the Lord has prepared for them to enjoy for eternity. Ultimately, God will be glorified.

Be aware of the power of God! Be aware of the power of the Gospel! Be aware of the power of the Holy Ghost working in us! Be Aware of the Great Commission! In Matthew 28:18-20, it is written, And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (KJV) What an energizing assurance for us who love to serve the Lord till He comes.
