Strong Determination

Text: Acts 20:24   IBCSWS   September 18, 2005

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

People with strong determination in life are usually goal-oriented people. They cannot be undermined by negative principles and their inner strength is obviously manifested through their attitude toward challenges in life. A closer look on the life of Apostle Paul reveals to us how he exemplified a classic example of a well-focused servant with a goal to serve the Lord at any cost.

In Acts 20:24, it is written, But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. (KJV) What an inspiring passage to remind and challenge every believer to serve the Lord without reservation and self-interest.

Strong determination is a goal-triggered firmness; he who possesses it will be led to God-glorifying success. A Christian with a strong determination to serve the Lord in sincerity and in truth will never become a victim of spiritual deterioration, but his life will always be in progress. May we realize what strong determination can do in our secular and spiritual lives, especially in the area of winning souls for Christ.

In II Timothy 4:7-8, Paul said with authority, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. (KJV) Our decision today to make firm commitment to follow Christ's steps will lead us to a rewarding life. The Apostle Paul followed the Lord and surely, he lived a well-lived life. Be determined and be blessed!

                   (I) Cannot Be Moved By The Uncertainties Of Tomorrow

   Acts 20:21-23

   -Altruistic (selfless) mind-set

                   (II) Goal-triggered Character

    Acts 20:24

-The goal: To finish the course

                   (III) God-glorifying Determination

     Acts 21:10-14

-For the name of the Lord Jesus

-According to the will of God

It may be strange to others, but true, that a Christian with a strong determination to serve the Lord will not be easily shaken by anxieties. His altruistic attitude in giving gives him an excellent opportunity to invest and garner unusual God-glorifying victories in this present life.
