The Things Which Are Yet To Come
Text: Matthew 24:1-8 IBCSS October 11, 2009
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
Seeing and hearing horrible news from different parts of this sin-abused planet earth will keep us wondering why horrifying things like global warming, earthquakes, tsunamis, stronger storms and uncontrolled floods, health problems, economic failures, political instability, vanishing morality and spiritual indifference are on the progress and there seem to be no ready solutions to man's current problems.
As we look with admiration how the world's great scientists intrude the privacy of the moon and planets, in quest for possible life and the needed resources to meet human necessities, it is obvious that their exploration and preparation for future survival still remain uncertain. It is so amazing that man goes beyond his set dominion, but sad to say that the problem in his own sphere of influence could not be neutralized by his pride-producing high technology and well-thought out theories of survival.
The truth reveals to us that the best of man cannot really save himself in all realms of his existence. It also reminds us that we are nothing and we cannot control everything, and unknowingly, the strange things which are yet to come will surely add perplexity to the existing problems of human kind.
The neglected Word of God tells us plainly how Bible prophecies are now taking shape, and in their due time, they will be fulfilled in a perfect way. (See Matthew 24:35) Sooner or later, many will realize that the Word of God is indeed the Truth and they who believe what are written in the Book will never be puzzled concerning the seemingly unfriendly course of our future world.
As we study the Word of God, we will realize that the strange problems we are facing today are just the beginning of more intense sorrow-giving and universal turmoil. In Matthew 24:7-8, it says, 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (KJV) We believe that knowing such prophesy will stir up true believers to be more faithful to God and be more prepared for any dreadful event in the coming days.

Believers are truly blessed in Christ. We cannot imagine how terrible the strange and evil things which will visit the world and its unbelieving inhabitants in the coming years; but we praise God for His Son Jesus Christ who came into this world and died at the Cross, buried and rose again from the dead to save sinners like us. Jesus is indeed the true Saviour of the world and he who believes in Him has the assurance of eternal life.
The Bible assures us in I John 5:13, 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (KJV)
Severe persecution may come and test true believers, not to destroy them, but to deepen their joy and strengthen their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The unbelieving world may worry about the uncertainties of the future, but those who put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ will enjoy peace in their hearts because God's gracious gift of life is theirs to enjoy in this present life and for eternity.
Let's take comfort in what John 14:1-3 says, 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (KJV) What a wonderful blessing we have in Jesus!
