Understanding Deceitful Inheritance

Text: Jeremiah 16:19-21   IBCSWS    11/20/05

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

The true value of heritage deserves to be carefully understood and appreciated by many people. In many cases, its emotional essence is more superior than its physical value, and that's a great reason why we should not take inherited things lightly; it is worthy to be properly looked unto and weighed so we may know their real importance.

One thing we should know concerning inheritance is that not all inheritance are good and beneficial. The Bible warns us not to get our inheritance hastily, and it also reminds us about dangerous inheritance we may receive from our older loved ones. In Jeremiah 16:19, it is written, O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. (KJV) This Bible passage warns us about deceitful inheritance and the danger it could bring to our lives.

There are three deceitful inheritances that are to be avoided in life because they will surely lead us to apostasy and tragic life.

                               (I) Inherited Lies

   Jeremiah 16:19

-Things that contradict the principles of

    Truth

The best inheritance we could possess in life is the Word of God. In John 17:17, it is written, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (KJV) The Word of God offers its liberty-giving power and sanctifying power to them that believe.

                                (II) Inherited Vanities

     Jeremiah 16:19

-Things that lead men to pride and

      destruction

The devil entices people to join his world of vanity and pride then lead them in the way of death. A prudent man avoids vanity, but embraces verity.

(III) Inherited Things Which Are Unprofitable

      Jeremiah 16:19   (I Cor. 6:12)

      -Things which are worthless

The devil is the father of all lies and he wants people to live in ignorance so he could manipulate them according to his wicked plan, but we praise God because His Word is available for us to study and apply its principles so we may not be trapped by his snare. Be watchful of the things we receive from men. Trust in the Lord and enjoy His blessings.
