The Word And The Lord

Text: II Timothy 4:1-5    IBCSWS    August 29, 2007

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

The Word of God is a precious and incomparable gift from above. He who really loves the Word surely loves the Lord also. Apparently, people truly need the Word, but because of spiritual blindness, people could hardly see its great value and benefits. For such reason, true Christians truly need to shine so people may see and appreciate the blessing of a Word-guided life.

True preachers of Christ should not let the blessings of the Word be robbed by giving their hearers "world-friendly and massage-like preaching" instead of the needed message from God. In II Timothy 3:16-17, it is written, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (KJV) These verses, if prayerfully studied, will surely lead every man of God to the right usage of the Word of God.

The Apostle Paul earnestly pressed on Timothy to preach the Word and motivated him to be ready to convey the message of truth at all times. Paul wanted to see Timothy to preach the Word with boldness without compromising with the world. Above all, he stirred up Timothy's awareness of his duty and accountability to God so he may stay faithful and pure. In II Timothy 4:1, it is written, I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; (KJV)

We are living in a world that is easily influenced by "rapid-growth secular mindset". Obviously, even churches today are being inclined to such unbiblical and risky philosophy, thinking that by pleasing men, their ministry will grow significantly. Christians who are determined to stand for Biblical principles must stay unspotted from the things of the world so their Local Churches may remain strong in the Lord till He comes.

As we realize the blessings and power of being pure in the ministry, may we not neglect the importance of uncompromised preaching of the Word.

(I)            Preach The Word

II Timothy 4:1-4

-Be ready at all times

-Reprove, rebuke, exhort and teach

-Don't compromise with the world

(II)          Reach Out The Lost With The Word

II Timothy 4:5

-Evangelize the world

(III)        Each One Of Us Should Love The Lord

II Timothy 4:6-8

-Live a well-lived life for the Lord

-Love the Lord and His coming

We cannot imagine how distorted the image of true Christianity would be had the early Christians lived by the so called "we did it our own way" philosophy. We praise God for those beloved forefathers of faith who stood the severe persecutions and died for the sake of truth so the image of True Christianity will be preserved and be loved by Truth-loving people. We thank God because such true image is what we are identified with today.

May each one of us love the Word and the Lord whole-heartedly.
